This is great when you’re on vacation or just out for the day and don’t want your HVAC system running. You can set it to start running before you get home, too.

For consumers concerned about energy costs, some thermostats also show real-time energy usage so you can make informed decisions when programming your thermostat. But if that’s overwhelming for you, there is another family of thermostats that actually “learn” your daily habits and automatically schedule temperature levels. They’re often accessible through mobile apps, so you can inform your thermostat if you’re going to be late for work, and it will adjust the day’s schedule accordingly.
