Follow This Advice To Winterize Your Air ConditionerIn the Los Angeles area when the winter arrives, you don’t typically use your air conditioner. Winterizing your unit can preserve its quality while it’s not in use, and lengthen its life span. When the next year arrives, your equipment will be ready to go and will provide you with cool air.

The following steps can help you winterize your air conditioner:

  • Turn off the power source to your air conditioner.
  • Make sure any form of vegetation has been cut short or removed from underneath and behind your unit. This is to prevent any debris from blowing into your air conditioner.
  • Inspect the outside of the unit for any damages that should be attended to before the winter comes. You don’t want to wait until the following year, especially if there is a warranty on your air conditioner.
  • Purchase an air conditioner cover, which can be found at most hardware stores. You need to protect the unit from moisture that could potentially freeze and thaw a number of times over the course of the winter.
  • Check on your air conditioner unit throughout the winter even if it’s not being run. You don’t want any water to build up on the top of the unit, and you also may need to fix the cover after high winds occur.
